BEEPING / DOOR ALARM

When an LG refrigerator continues to beep even though all doors appear to be closed, check that every door switch is fully closing. Be sure to inspect all areas where there is a legitimate interior light and door switch, including less obvious compartments.

A continuing door alarm can be caused by a faulty door switch, migrating magnet, or wiring. In rare cases, it may also be caused by a weak or defective magnet in the door, which prevents the switch from detecting that the door is closed.

If the unit is new and has been making this noise since first delivered, then chances are the delivery crew did not re-connect the door harnesses after putting the doors back on. The doors are usually taken off to fit the unit through the door, If the unit is new and has been making this noise since it was first delivered, the delivery crew may not have reconnected the door harnesses after reinstalling the doors.

Even if the door wire harnesses are connected, they could be connected to the wrong connectors. A popular example of this issue is on the right-side door. The connector for the humidity sensor and the connector for the door switch are the same style and size and are often accidentally switched. This causes the door alarm to constantly chime.

You may notice that the humidity sensor connector and the DID switch connector can be reversed. When this happens, the door switch circuit is interrupted, causing the interior lights to stay on, the door alarm to sound continuously unless the customer turns the alarm off, and the dispenser to stop functioning.

Another indication that something is wrong is that the Smart Diagnosis board may not be mounted to the hinge cover.

If the unit has a door in door feature on the right side and has been in the home for several years, then you need to check the door-in-door switch for possible broken wire inside the door. Just check the wires for continuity and if is no continuity on the door switch wires inside the door then replace the door.

In this example the two wires for door in door switch are orange. 

Most models usually are but sometimes may be any other color such as two yellow wires.

Set your meter for continuity.

Go across the two orange wires.

With Door Open you should have no continuity.

With Door Closed continuity.

Make sure that no magnets are missing, notably on the Freezer and Full Convert Doors.

I f you find in your troubleshooting that the issue is not something simple, proceed bellow. 

If you have checked all the simple items and the door alarm still beeps while the interior lights remain on, you will need to troubleshoot the door switches and related components. This may include checking the door switch operation, wiring connections, harnesses, and any related sensors or connectors.

Identify the location of the Door Switches

Look at the accompanying symptoms. If the unit is beeping or the door alarm is sounding, check whether an interior light is also on. If a light is on, identify which light it is, as this can help narrow down which door switch may be affected.

Note: Not all models have a door switch that also operates a light.

Please be aware that the Left-Hand door on an LG French door model will have a dummy light assembly in it and Does not illuminate,

And on our example model the freezer door does not operate an interior light but the door switch will still actuate the door alarm.

To access the switch, remove the three screws and the roller. You will need a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, something to pry the rail assembly.

Now gently and firmly pry from the front, the rail assembly revealing the door switch.

Testing the switch.

Example: LRYKC2606 , (check your individual Circuit Diagram to test your unit).

Voltage Check at Main PCB (Model LRYKC2606)

When either Fresh Food door switch is made (door open position), you should measure approximately11.4–12.6 VDC at the Main PCB, Connector 4, pins F to G.

This voltage confirms the control board is supplying power to the LED lighting circuit.

The reading should remain steady within this range.

These voltage values are generally consistent across models that use LED light modules, though always verify with the specific model’s wiring diagram when available.

*If the PCB is not producing the required voltage replace it.

Resistance Check for Door Switch.

When testing the resistance on the door switch use your needle probes, and a magnet strong enough to open the switch,

 

*Note: Have the tech place a magnet on the switch, that way you should read continuity on both Gray wires since the switch is closed.
